The Omari Story

One of the amazing parts of being story tellers is having the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life. On a recent production with Better Connect we had the pleasure of meeting the Omari family to share their story of determination and entrepreneurialism, another fantastic story about hope over adversity.

In 2021, The Omari Family were evacuated from Afghanistan and relocated to the UK. Since arriving in Skipton, the family have been supported by Craven College through the Multiply Programme to help them adjust to their new life and set up their new pop up restaurant ‘Afgan Star Cuisine’. The Multiply Programme is a UK Government initiative, designed to support adult numeracy skills by offering fun and free group and 121 support sessions incorporating everyday maths through a range of providers. Better Connect are working with organisations across York and North Yorkshire that are routed within their local communities and able to deliver support directly to individuals struggling with financial literacy. This film has been created in collaboration with Inspired Youth and Better Connect to show the impact of the Multiply programme and the amazing journey the Omari family have been on.
