A LIFE LONG JOURNEY

We believe every child victim of sexual abuse deserves support without prejudicing justice

Declan's Law campaign calls on the government to make it Law to provide psychological support to child sexual abuse victims without it affecting the trial or justice.

Kev has recently been to Westminster meeting Rachael Maskell MP and more recently was brought to the attention of Lord Chancellor Secretary of state for Justice Alex Chalk. The meeting was constructive and we have now written to the Justice Secretary with our calls for Declan’s Law to be implemented within the victims code in Clause 2 of the Victims and Prisoners Bill going through parliament.

In parallel with Declan’s Law campaign, Gemma Halliwell founder of The Green House project who support child victims of sexual abuse has been similtaneously raising the same issues for over a decade. Gemma developing training and resources to change the system so it better supports child victims. Gemma has met with MP Sarah Champion and has given recommendations to the committee overseeing the Bill.

Declan’s story was shared in parliament in a debate regarding the Victims and Prisoners Bill in which Racheal Maskell MP asked the Justice Minister Alex Chalk to implement additions to Clause 2 in the victims code which would mean all child victims of sexual abuse would have access to psychological services before they go to trial without this affecting justice in any way. The minister invited Racheal to “discuss the particulars.”
